Habitat: A wide variety of wetland habitats from cattail marsh to riverine forest to flooded agricultural fields and ditches.
Interesting Fact: The Great Egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society, one of the oldest conservation organizations in the country, because the decimation of populations of this species and other wading birds during the early twentieth century by market hunting helped spark the formation of conservation and environmental organizations, as well as of laws protecting these birds.
