Description: Gray-brown with black spots on the wings. The long, pointed tail is tipped in white. A patch of green and purple iridescence on the neck can be seen up close.
Voice: A mournful song sounding like oo AHhh oo oo oooo. The wings make a high-pitched whistle upon takeoff.

Habitat: Open woods, agricultural fields, and urban and suburban areas.
Interesting Fact: Mourning doves can be very long-lived birds. One of the oldest individuals on record lived more than 19 years.
