Agile, aerial insectivores often seen flying over towns by bright lights. Recognized in flight by the long, pointed wings with a white streak below the tip. Cryptically colored in gray and black when at rest on the ground, tree branches, or roof tops. |

Woodland clearings, grasslands, rock outcrops, and city roof tops. |
Interesting Fact: |
Most nightjars are strictly nocturnal birds, meaning they are active only at night. The Common Nighthawk, however, may be seen flying during the day, especially at dawn and dusk. |
