Description: Gray back, dark crown and nape and a white face. Has a large, slightly upturned bill and gray tail that is rusty brown underneath.
Voice: Voice consists of soft, nasally whistled notes. Common contact call is nasally yank.

Habitat: Open woods with mature trees.
Interesting Fact: Nuthatches are the only birds that can be seen climbing down tree trunks head first; they often are confused with woodpeckers at first glance because of their feeding behavior.
