Description: |
Although the male has a faint ring around the neck, the best field mark is the white ring around the black-tipped bill found on both sexes. Male has a dark glossy head and back with gray sides. Female has a gray head and brown body. Also note the female's white eye ring and white line extending behind the eye. |

Interesting Fact: |
Vegetable matter makes up the bulk of the species' diet, but they also eat insects, small mollusks, and other aquatic animals. Ring-necked Ducks have a more varied diet than other related diving ducks. |
