Description: |
This is a large sparrow with a long tail. Males have black above, a white belly and rufous sides. Females are similar but have browner upper parts. |

Undergrowth and thickets in woodlands where they scratch on the ground for invertebrates, berries and seeds. |
Interesting Fact: |
The Rufous-sided Towhee was split into two species – the Spotted Towhee of the western United States and the Eastern Towhee, which is more common in Arkansas. But look closely when you see a towhee because the Spotted Towhee is occasionally spotted in Arkansas in winter. |
